Hi all😊! A quick post today to showcase some new imagery I have been working on. These are new rendered images just to refresh some imagery for a watch I have showcased before – The Harold Pinchbeck Lindum limited-edition watch. I do quite a lot of work for this old watch company, mostly design modeling, rendering, and photography. The Lindum watch was designed some time ago by me as a design commission, to be inspired by the company’s home city of Lincoln, Lincolnshire – Lindum happens to be the old Roman name for the city of Lincoln.
Inspiration for the watch dial design was taken from the famous old Stained glass Rose window of the Lincoln Cathedral: The Bishops Eye Window:

All these images are mesh-modelled images, designed and mesh modelled by myself in Blender 4.2 software. The finished renders are rendered out using Blender 4.2 and the post edited using Adobe Photoshop.
It is a very classy-looking dress watch, although it also suits being an everyday watch, as it is rugged yet refined in its build. The design features a dial with great depth in the intricate pattern, and a polished case that catches the light beautifully, making it perfect for formal occasions. Meanwhile, the actual watch, like all of their watches, is built with robust craftsmanship to ensure that it can withstand daily wear and tear.
I hope you enjoy the design and watch as much as I do😊.
Just to let all my good readers and voters know, I will announce the winning design format from my last post: https://jayargonaut.com/2024/10/13/watch-design-poll-symmetry-vs-asymmetry-which-design-do-you-prefer/ in the next blog post to be written👍.
Until then, have a great day everyone!
Kind regards, Jay

Thank you Sara! I sincerely appreciate the compliment😊. Stained glass windows make such good inspiration I feel, especially for watch and clock dials. I have a few future watch designs planned incorporating some wonderful stained glass designs. Thank you for stopping by. Kind regards…Jay

Great detail . . . not sure I agree for “casual wear” but it is a great design with lots of fine detail.
I wonder, though . . . how close to they come in the physical watch in matching the fine detail of the rendering?
Specifically, things like the numbers on the outer ring. I ask because when I look at some things at the macro level, they are often not as well-delineated as a digital rendering might make it seem. Then again, I suppose they only need to be a tad better than what the human eye can resolve.

Thank you Emilio, I am glad you like it😊. Regarding casual wear, it is all subjective of course, though I certainly understand what you mean. Most would definitely call this a dress watch, but I do know people who would wear something even more dressier daily. ‘Horses for courses’ I guess 😊.
Very close. Though of course this all comes down to the quality of making. I can pretty much match like for like, and of course if things are slightly different when made, then it gets altered.
The company that make the dial for this watch, for example, are an old English dial makers who have been making dials since 1820, would you believe. Their ability for fine details, especially resolution for painting is second-to-none.
So there are many variables when it comes to this. My objective is to always get it as ‘true to life’ as possible👍. Kind regards…Jay

The design is fabulous, Jay, rich looking like a cathedral window looks.
It’s stunning, classy and desirable. You are so talented. You are the only watch designer I have ever known, albeit virtually.
Thank you!

I am glad you like and enjoy it. Maybe watch designing is a little niche, so there aren’t so many of us. I just love the process!
You are most welcome. Kind regards…Jay😊

I love the delicacy of this design–it looks like etched hearts in the middle. The historical connection is significant–there really is nothing new under the sun, is there? And both sets of numerals makes it stunning. Well done, my friend.

Thank you Dayle for that wonderful compliment! I am glad you enjoy it😊. You are right, many designs we see are influenced from things long past, even if we think it is original, no doubt our mind may have seen it elsewhere and uses it as reference. Thanks again, I sincerely appreciate it. Kind regards…Jay😊

That timepiece is very handsome, Jay! Beautiful textured dial, someone else has commented on the church window-like pattern. Cool contrast with the darker circle around the day. Great pics as always!

Late to comment (it’s been a hectic month sorry) – but I LOVE the filigree effect on the face of this design! Linda xx

Thank you Linda😊. I am glad you like it so much. This is a very popular design, and watch, because of that eye catching design I believe. The pattern is my interpretation of a famous stained glass rose window in the Cathedral of my home city. Thank you for your wonderful comment, and no need for apologies. Very kind regards, Jay😊

Oh, I do love a good cathedral – the fire at Notre-Dame in 2019 is what motivated me to study my PhD… we take old architecture for granted and assume it will be eternal, but in reality, these works of art are incredibly fragile! Linda xx

Thank you Linda. Notre-Dame is a beautiful Cathedral isn’t it, with a wonderful Rose window, in fact I have modelled the Notre-Dame window design and intend to design a watch or clock around this. It sounds like your dissertation is going to be interesting? You are right about their fragility; our offices are in Exchequer Gate Arch, in the shadow of Lincoln Cathedral, and there are always works going on to maintain the Cathedral. Interestingly Exchequer Arch, where our office is, was built in the 14th century, cool eh! Kind regards, Jay😊

It is very humbling to think of the age of the buildings and puts the length of your own life into perspective! I’d love to see a Notre Dame inspired watch! The windows have been cleaned up and the medieval glass is SO blue! L xx

It certainly does Linda! It has been a long time since I have seen Notre-Dame, so I must go see it again in the flesh soon. I will keep you in mind Linda when I get around to completing the design, I have so many planned, but will get to it no doubt one day😊…Jay
