An Old Quick Pen Sketch of the Hulk I Made for My Very Young Son😊

Daily writing prompt
What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

When my son was very young, he was obsessed with The Hulk 😠, maybe just like a lot of other young kids, no doubt. Anyway, he loved him and was always pretending to be him – giving him a reasonable excuse to ‘SMASH’ stuff, I guess, if there was going to be one 😊. He had some massive green Hulk hands and would run around saying ‘Hulk smash’, destroying stuff, anyone who got in his way, and always winning and saving the day šŸ’Ŗ.

When I was young, I was good at drawing, an inherited skill from my mother’s side. I was encouraged to go to Art College, but I wasn’t really interested, even though I was very good. Sometimes we can have a natural talent, but don’t want to use it much, I guess!

Anyway, occasionally my Son would ask me to sketch stuff, usually super heroes, so of course I would sit and oblige him. Most of these sketches got lost or thrown, but I still have one. When he was about 4 or 5 he asked me one afternoon to sketch the Hulk on the back of a writing pad he had, with two Bic pens…so I did and I still have it today😊:

The Old Pen Sketch of The Hulk:

I don’t usually get involved with the daily prompt as I like to keep my blog on point with 3D design, but this still being ‘arty’, and for posterity reasons, I thought this image and post would suit.

This is probably not the oldest thing I own and I don’t tend to keep things, but it is in daily view, and out of those old things maybe the most valuable to me, so it is taking the prize today!

Just for fun, and to keep this post more on point with the tone of my blog in terms of design, I thought I would also take this photo above of my old sketch and drop it into Photoshop to create a more fitting background for Hulk. So I did that this morning before writing this post. Here is the result, I hope you like it.

Pen Sketch With Background Imagery:

Well that is it for this post, I hope you like it😊. Sometimes friends say I should take up pencil/pen drawing again, or painting, but I just don’t. Maybe in years to come I will. I enjoyed it when I was a young boy being lost in my little world. I guess I am doing the same with my 3D art and design, and of course time is always a factor!

Have a wonderful day good people😊.

Kind regards, Jay

    1. Thank you DarrylšŸ‘. Yes he did, very much so! To be honest though, at that time, he thought anything with an image of or connected with the Hulk was coolāœŠšŸ˜Ž. In fact, probably like a lot of young kids, most of the time he actually believed he was the HulkšŸ’ŖšŸ˜ …šŸ˜„

  1. Love this drawing. Thank you!

My oldest thing I still use is …. my drafting curve. I’ve used it since college. Then I used it during my years as a costume designer in film & tv. Now I use it when making pattern pieces for my Art Gowns.

    1. Thank you for your kind words Sheila😊. I am glad you like it. The Hulk is awesome isn’t he. I grew up on the series with Lou Ferrigno playing Hulk. Both the movies are good…which one did you watch? Good on your husband, I hope he is still enjoying it! Kind regards, Jay😊

    1. Ah yes, I love the scene where he is in the desert and trashes the tanks, great scene!

Yes, Bill Bixby. It is so dated now compared to the modern CGI, but at the time when you are kid, it hits the markšŸ‘Œ. Best, Jay
