Plasticity 3d CAD Software – A Big Positive Move Forward👍

Trying to keep my blog on point with these prompts is not always easy, but I feel I can get involved with this one today in my little world of design. For several days now I have been trying out some new 3D CAD design software I came across called Plasticity 3D. It is sold as ‘CAD software for Artists.

Daily writing prompt
Describe one positive change you have made in your life.

For those that may be unfamiliar, ‘CAD’ is an acronym for ‘Computer Aided Design’ software. This technology originated in the 1960s at MIT and has since undergone significant evolution. Its primary function is to facilitate the design process, particularly for intricate parts.

On the other hand, CAM-based technology and software, which stands for ‘Computer Aided Manufacturing,’ play a crucial role in translating designs into manufacturable products. It effectively assists in preparing designs for the manufacturing process and facilitates the transformation of designs into ‘G-code,’ subsequently used by CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machines to produce the desired parts. This seamless transition from design to manufacturing is essential in modern industrial processes and has greatly enhanced the efficiency and precision of production.

The software you see above is the aforementioned ‘Plasticity 3D’ software I have been trying out, and I can honestly say I think it is brilliant! I primarily use ‘Blender’ software, which is superb and extremely powerful. The difference between this and Plasticity is that Blender can do a multitude of things brilliantly, whereas Plasticity is just really for ‘Hard surface modeling’, but does it very well.

Plasticity 3D software is impressive how it excels in hard surface modeling, delivering outstanding results in that specific area. Blender, on the other hand, stands out for its versatility and capability to handle a wide range of tasks with excellence. It’s truly a powerhouse in the realm of 3D design and animation. Each software has its own strengths, with Plasticity shining in its specialized focus and Blender demonstrating its prowess across various domains within the 3D modelling and animation landscape. It’s fascinating to witness how these tools cater to different needs and skill sets, empowering creators to achieve their artistic visions through distinct yet complementary capabilities.

Another key difference in Plasticity is in the technology behind it, you see it essentially models using NURBS, which stands for ‘Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines’. NURBS are widely used in computer graphics and digital modeling, providing a flexible and efficient way to represent 3D geometry. By utilizing NURBS, Plasticity is able to achieve smooth surfaces and complex shapes that are essential for high-quality object rendering and visualization. This technique allows for precise control over the shape of the modelled objects, resulting in a more realistic and detailed representation. Moreover, NURBS-based modelling in Plasticity offers a streamlined workflow, enabling me to create intricate designs with ease and precision. Overall, the use of NURBS technology in Plasticity sets it apart in the realm of digital modelling, providing a powerful tool for creating sophisticated 3D content.

The Plasticity 3D platform is truly a revolutionary tool for streamlining workflow when it comes to creating machine-ready parts. An added bonus is a seamless integration with Blender through the ‘Blender-Bridge’ feature, which when connected, will build the model in real time in Blender while I build it in Plasticity, ultimately leading to stunning rendered outputs. This powerful synergy between the two platforms amplifies the efficiency and precision of the 3D modelling and rendering process, allowing you to harness the strengths of each tool. Moreover, while Plasticity 3D serves as an invaluable asset in preparing parts for production, the undisputed prowess of Blender reigns supreme, solidifying its position as a King in the realm of 3D design and rendering. With this innovative combination of tools at your disposal, you can elevate your creative endeavors to new heights and achieve exceptional results.

All in all fantastic stuff and certainly a positive move for my workflow😊👍!

Well that is it for today, I hope you enjoy the post and find it interesting.

Any questions on the above topic feel free to comment, I always appreciate it!

have great day everyone!

Kind regards, Jay

    1. Hi MagickMermaid😊. Yes I guess this is all quite specific info and software geared toward the engineering world, although with desktop 3D printers and cutters being so accessible now, there has probably never been a better time to know about them. Thank you for your input and glad you learned something new😊👍. Kind regards…Jay
