A Cup of Coffee, or Two! I drunk one & modelled one too 😊!

The daily prompt asks me what is my favourite drink?

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite drink?

For me my favourite drink has to be a cup of coffee! I am not that choosy about the make, brand or type, just as long as it is hot and strong ☕! I love coffee and probably drink too much. I also like it very hot, this probably has to do with the fact that when I was very, very young (an infant)…I used to drink hot coffee out of a bottle! Parents giving their infant hot coffee you say😮? Yes I know, but they did, and I loved it…so much so they used to call me asbestos mouth 😄. And I still love it strong and hot to this day.

My second favourite drink is tea, with milk, lots of Ginger, and honey. I like honey.

Anyway, there isn’t much else to say about coffee from me really, other than it is my favourite drink. So, rather than try and talk more about it, I sat and modelled a scene in Blender with two cups of coffee in it, and my Jayargonaut ‘Argonipper’ radio in it. Do you like it? I like to make 3D modelled scenes in blender, and see if I can make them look real, so I made this one this morning to go with this prompt:

Please let me know if you like it? dislike it? or just what you think?😊

A word on the spelling in this blog, I am aware of the difference in the US English and UK English. In the UK we spell ‘favourite’, and the US version is ‘favorite’. And the UK we say, or spell, ‘modelled’ and the US version is ‘modeled’…..Interesting isn’t it??

Whichever way you spell it (all languages apply if you want to jump in👍), in the end I guess…there it is!

Oh, one more thing I will say while we are talking about coffee and tea. I have a friend who wrote ‘The World Tea Encyclopedia’, his name is Will Battle, and he lives not far from me. I know him because many years ago I designed a watch for him to take on the ‘Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc’. Will knows a lot about Tea! I guess you would say he is a a Tea expert, and mixes and sells tea. I believe he has written updated versions, but this is the one I have, go check it out if you like:

The World Tea Encyclopedia

My friend Will Battle who wrote ‘The World Tea Encyclopedia, a very pleasant and interesting guy. Go check his website out: www.fineteamerchants.com

That is it for this blog. I hope you enjoyed it, and my picture😊.

I hope you all have a great day!

Kind regards, Jay

      1. If you fancy some army/investigation fictions you might enjoy. Lee Child writes so captivatingly, and there are a few of movies of the same. If you find time, you could try checking them out. You might like the guy 👌 infact you will like the storyline😌

          1. 😌😌 thaanks. I hit the famous ‘writer’s block’ and these prompts are reviving my art.
Your blog is interesting too, I first thought it is photography only to learn it is 3D creation.

          2. You are welcome Julie😊, and thank you🙏. Yes keep at it! I know what you mean, we all hit those blocks, but keep going…it is the tenacity that counts, just keep going and it will get easier. It is the ‘Law of incremental gains’, go look it up. It counts for so much. Best….Jay 😊

  1. Great job with the model! I haven’t been able to do anything like that in a few months. Blender was my go to for modeling. What software are you using for your modeling? Very good bro!

    1. Thank you my friend, I really appreciate that 🙏. I use Blender, I must admit I love it as a platform, and the latest major update to 4.0 took it up a notch. I am used to using it so tend to stick with it. I do tend to use Photoshop a fair amount for finishing off the composition though, I like its tools. The new depth-of-focus tool is great for adding that extra depth when needed. Thanks bro….really appreciate it 🤜🤛.

      1. For sure! You created an awesome scene. I like it!

I like to mix Photoshop and substance designer. Not sure if you have used substance designer. It has a bit of a learning curve but is a really good tool. Saves a ton of time with creating/applying materials.

Man, I heard they added skybox.ai to blender and implemented vagabond, I think? Might be wrong. But I know there has been a lot of cool updates over the past year or two. I think blender is one of the best options out there. Considering the prices of these modeling softwares.

        1. Thanks mate, appreciate it 🙏. No I haven’t used substance designer I have to admit. And it is funny you say that as I was watching a video yesterday about it, so must go check it out. I keep hearing it is good so thanks for the recommend.

Yes Blender 4.0 is very good, I have just made the jump up and things like AGX colour management has made rendering much more real, it handles light and colour at high end so much better, also things like light-linking so you can choose what, or what not to light, really helps….as you say though there has been many updates, so I have not touched all of them. And you are right, Blender being open source makes a huge difference. I have no doubt there could be better, but Blender is certainly getting there, and have several major updates planned in the near future.

          1. It’s come a long way from an abandoned game engine. I haven’t had a chance to mess with much of the lighting stuff. I am still fairly new to that. My main models are for game assets. Typically, lighting is applied by the environmental lighting or within an engine itself through placements or scripts. But, I did start tinkering with the animation tool. I had to move the lights around to make stuff work for vehicle lights when playing back. It was kind of funny. That’s about as far as I got with lighting. Shader edits take a lot to learn the nodes/node wrangler. I love blender though. I did try maya. I thought it was too complicated in comparison. Blender has come a long way. I started messing with it right after eevee rendering was implemented. Mostly just tinker around. I have completed a few courses along the way. Still a lot left to learn.

          2. Yes I guess it depends on what you are mainly using it for, I have not modelled game assets, rather I tend to use it for modelling real life products and scenes, but I also like to try some unique and interesting modelling. This is the thing with 3D modelling suites, you can do so much with them, VFX, animation, product development…it is rare you end up doing it all, though it would be cool to learn everything given the time🙂. Yes node systems are powerful but lot to learn as you say, you never stop learning really. Keep going my friend, courses are a great way to learn! there are lots of good ones on Udemy.com & youtube. Best….Jay
