The Argonaut? The Road? or the King?

Jason – is my name, or rather, the name I was given….Jayargonaut on here, as you will notice this is my brand/webname 🙂

The root of the name as I read and understand, is Greek(or Hebrew?), and the main meaning behind the name is ‘healer’, it derives from the Greek word ‘Iaomai’ which means ‘to heal’. Of course the much more well known story behind the name is the Greek mythology of ‘Jason & the Argonauts’!

The Argonauts:

Jason was a Greek mythological Hero and the leader of the ‘Argonauts’, according the myth, Jason was the Son of ‘Aeson’ and the rightful king of ‘lolcos’, and ancient Greek city in the area of Thessaly, Greece.

The King:

Now, the name Jason as it is ‘my name’ I am not entirely sure why it was chosen for me. I was born in 1970, and in the 70’s ‘Jason’ was a popular name, in the ‘top 20’ I believe. Just one of the reasons for this in the UK was the fact there was a very popular, cheesy, but cool drama show called ‘Jason King’:

In this series ‘Jason King’ was a writer of adventure novels, but was also this kind of cheesy, but cool Cad…a type of James Bond type character is you like that would get embroiled in adventure in his travels as a writer, while entertaining beautiful women and being cheesily charming!

As such many kids who were born in the 70’s were no doubt given the name Jason because of this show and its popularity. To be honest either of the above seem like good enough reasons to be called Jason :).

The Road:

A last reason I might have been given the name Jason, is the not so glamorous fact that two corners from around my ‘home street’, which I grew up on, was a road called ‘Jason Road’, so it could have just been a ‘that-will-do’ kind of decision. As I said, not so glamorous!

As my second name is Garth, I like to think it is the top version of an Argonaut, with maybe just a smidge of Jason King thrown in….how much cooler can you get than that 🙂
