Choosing colour for a concept watch design – bold, strong, and understated.

I am currently designing a watch concept for refining into a core watch-line. Yesterday I spent some time playing with colour variants to move ahead with, and ran off some renders for display.

What is required in this design:

The core specification for this watch design was:

  1. A ‘house’ or ‘base’ design to be a brand core-line watch.
  2. It was to be quite simple in design, an almost everyday high-specification watch.
  3. Three design key-words given: bold, strong, understated.
  4. The design can be made in different colour variants; strap, dial, watch-hand options etc.

What is required of me to deliver:

  1. Full design of the watch concept.
  2. Full build of all size critical mesh models(built in Blender modelling software).
  3. Delivery of a full set of finished 4k renders showing all aspects and detail of the design.
  4. Delivery of all required .SVG design files for manufacture of the watch dial, watch-back, and watch hands.

The design so far – work in progress:

The design process has been a fun and rewarding one as always, and as I continue to make progress, I find myself increasingly drawn to this particular design. Its strong and bold aesthetic exudes a sense of cleanliness and sophistication, making it a standout choice for a smart and classy-looking watch. One of the most impressive aspects of this design is its versatility in terms of color combinations, meeting the essential requirement of adaptability. Currently, I am inclined towards three base colors: blue, bronze, and teal/aqua. These colors not only add depth and character to the design but also offer a diverse range of visual appeal.

I have completed all the design work and modeling using Blender 4.0, which is my preferred platform for this work. The images displayed below represent my initial designs, created for assessment purposes only and should be viewed as works in progress. These designs are subject to change and will be further refined as the project progresses.

The Teal/Aqua feel:

The Sporty blue feel:

I think this covers enough ground for color variations for now. Of course the great thing about a design like this is that we can ring the changes with current trends if need be, it is what I would call a timeless design, which of course are always the best!

The flexibility of this watch design allows for seamless adaptation to evolving trends. Embracing current styles while maintaining a timeless essence is key to a watch’s enduring appeal. Versatility ensures a watch can effortlessly complement changing preferences, making it a steadfast choice for the long term. By adapting to contemporary aesthetics, this design can remain perpetually alluring, standing the test of time as a symbol, and watch, of timeless elegance.

That is it for this post. I hope you like the design. If you have any particular colour preference, feel free to let me know in the comment section.

have a great day everyone 😊.

Kind regards, Jay
